hello! how’s it going? eh…this time i want to talk about the spring festival.

you must hear about this festival many times though you are not chinese, because the spring festival is one of the oldest festival in china and every time when you ask a foreigner “what do you know about chinese culture?” majority of them might answer “the spring festival!”. for chinese, that’s true the spring festival is a traditional and important festival. so let me introduce something about it.

there are some key points of it. “new year’s eve” ”poetic couplet” “paper-cuts” “do spring festival shopping” “propose a toast” “fireworks” “red packets” “give new year’s greetings” and so on. following is more clearly.

days before the new year

on the days before the new year celebration, chinese families give their home a thorough cleaning. it is believed the cleaning sweeps away bad luck and makes their homes ready for good luck to arrive. all brooms and dust pans are put away on new year's eve so that good luck cannot be swept away. some people give their homes, doors and windowpanes a new coat of red paint. homes are decorated with paper cutouts of chinese auspicious phrases and couplets (short phrases) that speak of "happiness," "wealth," "longevity."

reunion dinner

a reunion dinner is held on new year's eve where members of the family, near and far, get together for celebration. the new year's eve dinner is very large and traditionally includes chicken. fish, but not eaten up completely (and the remainder is stored overnight), as the chinese phrase (nián nián yǒu yú), which means "may there be surpluses every year", sounds the same as "may there be fish every year", since "yú" is also the pronunciation for "yú" ("leftover" or "surplus").

money given to children

on the night of new year’s eve or the first day of new years, just after the big dinner when people are gathered for talk, relatives usually put "yā suì qián" or "end of year money" in the red packets. that’s what kids all love. and at the same time kids should give new year’s greetings like “happy new year!” “live a happy life!”

the spring festival is more than what i told you. and sometimes i just think of it as a holiday. hope to hear from you.

beggars are one of the most familiar groups in every city. they accompany us from our childhood until now, and i've found both the beggars and i change in this journey.

years ago as a little girl, when i came across some old and disabled beggars on the road, i'd donate some pocket money to them, happily thinking i was helping.

s i have grown older, i've found the number of beggars has grown larger and they are more diverse. they appear in every corner of the city, on the overbridge, on the street, near restaurants, and even at your door. in contrast with the old days, it seems like the situation with beggars today is more complicated, which has made me hesitate before deciding whether to help them or not.

it's hard for me to give them money considering some who appear beggars in day time but dress up and go to fancy restaurants at night; and some who are controlled by some illegal organization and the money they get all goes to the organization. if i help them, i'd be making the problem worse, i'd be doing harm to the society, indirectly. but it's also hard not to give them money, considering there're real beggars who really need help. if i don't help them, who will? and where is my sympathy?

what hurts me the most is not how hard it is to distinguish the real help-seekers from the many false ones, but that some children are forced by adults, sometimes even their parents, to beg. they grow up despised by the world, out of mainstream society. when i see their eyes filled with desperation and impudence instead of purity and innocence, my heart sinks. we don't know how they will face the world when they grow up, how this will shape their characters, and what they may do to the society, to perpetuate this cycle of violence.

months ago the fu jian government has promulgated a new policy to deal with 8 kinds of beggars. an internet survey shows that over 80% of voters reacted positively toward the policy. we know that one single policy cannot solve a problem as complex as this one, but we do look forward to some improvement. i wish all humanity can live like human.

life is a process of growing up. saying goodbye to childhood, we step into another important time of lifesquo;the youthsquo;ver, who can really say what the youth is ? a period of time? a belief? an attitude to life? or anything else? we donsquo;t know.

a famous poet said squo; youth is a lovely song ,where nothing is impossible ; youth is a meaningful book, yousquo;ll be never bored of it ;youth is a rapid river ,it keeps on flowing day and night ;youth is a cup of tea ,it shows you different kinds of tastes in your life. squo;

as youth is so precious, of course, we must treasure it quo;t let the limited time pass by, leaving nothing of significance to our future. actually, youth has a lot to do with our future. itsquo;s necessary for us to prepare ourselves well for the future to come. so, what should we do? here ,isquo;ll point out some tips to help equip ourselves

first of all, recognize the direction of your future. in other word, think of what yousquo;d like to be some day. a teacher ? a doctor ? a writer? donsquo;t afraid of thinking big and great e you are young , you can dream of doing anything and becoming anyone in the future

whatsquo;s more , never ignore the power of knowledge. read more books and travel around. for one thing, it can increase your knowledge, for another, itsquo;ll broaden your horizon.

last but not the least , stick to your dream. it easier said than done. after all, future is not all roses. so, we should have enough courage and determination to overcome all the difficulties.

i firmly believe one sentence thatsquo;if you think you can, of course you can!squo;just believe we can make it! keep on walking towards our dream. flying youth ,master our future. from today, from now on ,from duping middle school ! ready ?

thatsquo;s all. thank you so much for your attention !
